10 years of uncodebar!

Earlier this month the codebar community gathered at Google’s stunning Pancras Square office for the 10th annual uncodebar unconference.

uncodebar is our annual unconference that brings the codebar community together for a day of connecting with like-minded people and sharing knowledge.

An unconference means there are no talks pre-planned— attendees create it on the day, promoting an informal and inclusive exchange of ideas. Anyone, regardless of experience, can lead a session, which can range from technical workshops, talks, round-table discussions and panels.

The day began with a welcome session where our community members pitched a diverse rang of sessions for the day — from discussions on volunteering in tech, CV building workshops to writing scripts in Python. Breakout groups then quickly formed, and the event came alive! The fact that sessions were not pre-determined allowed for a spontaneous and organic flow of ideas, making it a truly inclusive experience.

Throughout the day, the sense of community was everywhere. Experienced and junior developers alike exchanged knowledge and stories, proving that uncodebar is not just about tech — it’s about supporting each other, building networks, and fostering a sense of belonging, particularly for those who are underrepresented in the tech industry. The diverse range of sessions highlighted the importance of representation in tech, and it was inspiring to see so many first-time speakers stepping up to share their knowledge.

A big thank you to Google for hosting us, feeding us and keeping us hydrated. A huge thank you to Contentful for being our wonderful Gold sponsor, without you the event wouldn’t have been possible. And a third thank you to our Travel sponsor TravelPerk, because of you we were able to financially help 16 people get to the event.

And the final and biggest thank you to YOU, our wonderful community. You came, ran sessions and put together an amazing, and memorable TENTH uncodebar. We’re leaving inspired and excited to keep pushing our mission and creating a space where people can connect and learn to code!

Thank you, and see you next year 🩷❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🖤🩶🤍🤎
